LIVING FAITH

FAITH
Faith is at the center of the Christian teaching. It’s a
core principle in Christianity and if you were raised by Christian parents,
chances are you have heard many teachings on faith, its importance in our walk
with God. You have heard of the great men and women of God who walked in faith
like Abraham. We get saved through faith because we believe in God and that he
sent His son to die for our sins even though we have not seen Him. That is
faith.
This morning I had a revelation of what it means to have faith in practice. This happened as I was listening to my morning sermon shows getting ready for work as usual. Dr. Winston was preaching about faith that heals on his believers’ walk of faith show. It was like a eureka moment, suddenly I understood faith in a new and fresh perspective. Dr. Bill Winston in his sermon recounts the various instances in the bible where people were healed through faith and believing. One such example was the ten lepers in Luke 17:11-19. As Jesus made his way to Jerusalem, he went along the border between Samaria and Galilee. He was going into a village when he was met by ten men suffering from a dreaded skin disease. They stood at a distance and shouted, ‘Jesus ! Master! Have pity on us!’ Jesus saw them and said to them ‘go and let the priests examine you’. On the way they were made clean. When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself to the ground at Jesus feet and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan .Jesus spoke up, ’there were ten who were healed; where are the other nine? Why is this foreigner the only one who came back to give thanks to God? ’And Jesus said to him ‘Get up and go; your faith has made you well.’
These men were suffering from leprosy and when they saw Jesus
they called unto him to be healed of their affliction. This means that they
were expectant, they were ready to receive healing; their hearts were open to
receive but wait for it, this is where it gets interesting note that Jesus told
them go and let the priests examine you and as they were going they got well. Now
naturally these people would have said we can’t go since we are still sick
because lepers were not allowed to mingle with others due to the contagious
nature of the sickness. But these men did not question but left to go to the
priests even though they could clearly see that they were still covered in leprosy.
They believed that they had been healed even though in the natural it didn’t
seem like it. This, my friends is faith.
Another account is written in John 5:1-9 with the man by the pool of bethzatha who had been sick for 38 years. "A large crowd of sick people were lying on the porches –the blind, the lame, and the paralyzed .Jesus saw the man lying there and he knew that the man had been sick for such a long time; so he asked him, ’Do you want to get well? ’The sick man answered ‘sir I don’t have anyone here to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up; while I am trying to get in, somebody else gets there first. ’Jesus said to him ’get up pick your mat and walk.’ Immediately the man got well; picked up his mat and started walking". The man did want to get healed; he was expectant and when he was told to get up and walk he did not debate the logic he got up and walked. He believed Jesus could do that for him. In the natural he knew he had been sick for a long time and he could not walk that’s why for all these years he had been lying near the pool struggling to get into the water to no avail but when Jesus told him to get up and walk he did not try to reason with him or worry if he would be able to actually stand up but instead just obeyed and it was so.
Many times as Christians we know what faith is and even tell ourselves that we believe but when we are tried, we sometimes find our faith failing. How many times have you heard God’s promises spoken in your life, you have even confessed them yourself but when you don’t see it happening immediately doubt sets in. You start worrying again that it’s not working and you have to find a solution. Faith is believing you are healed even though you still feel pain, that you are wealthy even though you are still struggling that you are righteous in God’s eyes even though you are still struggling with sin, that you have a good spouse even though you are still single. Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of the things you cannot see. Hebrews 11:1
